Privacy Policy

Attention Mail ("the app", "we") is a desktop email client for macOS, made by Sunny Modi. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, where it is stored, and the choices you have. It applies to the Attention Mail app and to this website, attentionmail.com.

In short: your email is downloaded directly from your provider to your Mac, processed on your Mac, and stored on your Mac. We do not operate a server that receives your email, and we never sell, share, or use your data for advertising or to train AI models.

Data the app accesses

• Email you choose to connect. Messages, threads, headers (sender, recipients, subject, dates), message bodies, and read/starred/inbox state from the account you connect.
• Basic account information. Your name, email address, and profile picture, used to show which account is connected and to fill in the From line when you send.
• Credentials. The OAuth tokens issued by Google or Microsoft, or the app password you enter for IMAP providers.
• Your settings. Preferences, the personal context you type, and the corrections you make to rankings.

How the data is used

The app uses this data only to provide its email features to you:

• Showing your inbox and conversations, and searching them.
• Ranking conversations by what deserves your attention, using a machine learning model (Core ML) that runs entirely on your Mac.
• Sending email you write, including replies in the right conversation.
• Archiving, starring, marking as read or unread, and moving conversations to trash when you ask it to.

Nobody else reads your email. We do not use it to build profiles, show ads, or train or improve AI models, and no person at Attention Mail can access it.

Where the data is stored

Email and settings are stored in the app's folder on your Mac. Sign-in tokens and passwords are encrypted with macOS Keychain. Data travels only between your Mac and your email provider (for example Google's Gmail API or Microsoft Graph) over encrypted connections. The app has no Attention Mail server, and email data is never transmitted to us or to any third party.

The first time you turn on attention ranking, the app downloads the ranking model from Hugging Face. That download does not include or send any of your data.

Google user data

If you connect a Gmail account, the app requests the gmail.modify permission along with your basic profile (name, email address, picture). It uses this access only to read your mail for display and on-device ranking, send mail you write, and change labels when you archive, star, mark read, or trash a conversation.

Attention Mail's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically, Google user data is not transferred to anyone, is not used for advertising, is not read by humans, and is not used to develop, improve, or train generalized AI or machine learning models.

Microsoft and other providers

Outlook and Microsoft 365 accounts are accessed through Microsoft Graph with the Mail.ReadWrite and Mail.Send permissions, and IMAP providers with the app password you supply. This data is handled exactly as described above: on your Mac only.

Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your data. Because email never reaches us, we have nothing to disclose to third parties.

Retention and deletion

Data stays on your Mac until you remove it. Choosing Disconnect in the app's settings deletes the downloaded mail and the stored sign-in and, for Google, asks Google to revoke the app's access. Deleting the app's folder in ~/Library/Application Support removes everything. You can also revoke access at any time from your Google Account or your Microsoft account.

This website

attentionmail.com is a static website. It sets no cookies, has no analytics or trackers, and has no forms. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may process standard request logs such as IP addresses to operate and secure the site.

Children

Attention Mail is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
